Internship Day One...Nice :)

0630

This is the first time I woke up so early since form 5. Normally I wake up around 6 hours from now, but since this is the first day of work, should sacrifice sleeping time :)

0715

Leave for work at Pilot Multimedia (M) SDN BHD

0800

Destination reached, had my first earliest breakfast of mee-soup + drinks. Almost puked after that, but thank God, I didn’t. Met a fellow trainee, which coincidentally was my ex-housemate back in Malacca, lost contact with him for almost 2 years, but ended up working in the same company for internship. Wow….:)

0900

Went into the company to report for duty, met all of my fellow trainees colleague, all of which are from MMU Malacca, so that means that out of 6 trainees, all are from Malacca campus except for me. What wonderful combinations that can be… :) work supposed to start now, but due to Malaysian timing, work starts later

0915

All trainees were gathered at he MD’s room for briefing, and then THE BOMB WAS DROPPED!!!!! The company will be moving its premise to Technology Park Malaysia (TPM) , Bukit Jalil effective next week, and thus training will also be moved form the current location, which is in Old Klang Road, to the new place, which is in TPM. WooHoo….what coincidence. On the first day of both training, THE BOMB WAS DROPPED!!!! Once was during the J2EE training, where the training was forcefully moved to MMU labs because of power failure in InfoTrek, and now because of company restructuring, we had to move again. I was wondering, whether is it a coincident, or is it bad timing, or perhaps, it could be a blessing in disguise (BID). For the first case, it was a BID because I get to use a more powerful P4 machine, compare to a P3 in the original training center. This time I am not so sure, but most probably it would be a BID as well. *fingers crossed*

0945

We were being introduced to our respective supervisors in charge, and were being given our first task as well. Right now the company is working on 2 major projects, and I was tasked to learn up Microsoft.Net (.NET) within this week, and to develop an application with it. I was being given the appropriate software and tools to do the project. And I spent my whole morning just to install the framework. The installation process of 4 CDs + a few documentations took 2.5-3 hours to complete. In the mean time, I seized the time to learn up .NET for I have NOT touch .NET before. (And I took up J2EE instead of Ms.NET for my USP program :-o….) at least I learnt something new :)

1230

Had lunch with 5 of my colleagues. We chat about the shifting of premise, and were coming up with solution on how to solve the problem. And we found out that TPM is not within walking distance from TPM. Hmmm..Bad timing to move out from the rented apartments, as they were bound for 1+1 month before their deposit can be refunded. I had mix-rice for lunch, and it’s much cheaper then the food in Cyberjaya, as expected….

1330

Work resumed for the day, this time with supervisor’s training and guidance. I had my first feel on MS.Net and soon I was left on my own to experiment with the software as well as to familiarize with the framework and platform. I had a meeting with the supervisor prior to this, and was told about the development and the progress done by Microsoft for developing the .NET framework, and was brief also a little about the company’s profile. A lot of self study continued until it’s time to go back.

1730

Time to say bye bye to my colleagues, and soon I headed back home. The journey at this time was not that bad.

1830 – 2300

Normal routine for the past 1.5 months

Aaaaahhhh……this is the first time a diary appeared on my blog, and certainly, today is my first day of internship @ Pilot Multimedia (M) SDN BHD. It had been a fun and nice ride all the way from morning till work ended, and I made new friends, and also experience new stuffs. According to my dad, 4 months of training is not enough to get the 100% feel of working life, but nevertheless, it had been an eye opener for me as I could see how working life is even on the first day. I do admit that I still have a long way to go, and have a lot more to learn, but as the Malay proverb puts it , “Sedikit sedikit lama lama jadi bukit” this tells of when things are done little by little, eventually it will come up with something big. This applies to my knowledge and my skills while working. Though 4 months is a little too short, but as time goes by, the knowledge and the wisdom that I get will be a lot compare to my first time.
