Another night to remember - Easter Event 2006

What is Easter to you?

A : Bunnies *hop hop*
B : Eggs *yum yum*
C : Parties *Yea Yea Happy*
D : Sleep and doesn’t care * Hmm*

Your answer may be any of the above, but on the 4th of April 2006, a group of Young, Multitalented, Creative and Dynamic people came together to put up stunning and extravagant performance, known as Easter Event to convey the true meaning of Easter to the campus. Preparations began as early as the first semester, with publicity, performance, band gearing up for a few months ahead.. this is a Pilot event organized by the Christian Fellowship of MMU, though not officially recognized, but still by the grace of God we are able to hold several events in campus, including the much sought after performance night of Cyber Christmas. The same people who brought Cyber Christmas, now brings Easter Event, to spread the real and true meaning of Easter to the campus, where in the previous years, the message of Christmas was portrayed through various channels, including exhibition, cafes and the likes.

The day started early for all of the committee members and the crews of various departments. Sound and lights were tested, rehearsals went on till afternoon, chairs were arranged, and decorations were put up. When everything had been put in place, people start thronging in the hall at exactly 7.30PM. Usherers were seen putting up their broadest smiles and with their handshakes began ushering people in the hall. Dressed handsomely and prettily, they really gave a good first impression to those who attend; Technical crew, which includes the sound, lighting and camera were on standby and awaiting the show; Security personnel were deployed to safeguard the personal belongings of the team and also to maintain order should anything unforeseen arises; Performers were seen backstage, waiting patiently for the show to start. Some were nervous, some were praying, others were seen giving motivation to their counterparts; Backstage crew were on standby to move props in and out of the stage; EE sales team were prepared to handle transactions pertaining to t-shirts selling, and also tickets selling. To sum it up, everybody was ready to rock and roll.

The night started at 8PM, with a brief video clip that asked the question above “What does Easter means to you?” People from various places were interviewed and shown on screen, with some saying it’s a time of joy and hope, of bunnies, of eggs, while some said it was the day when the Lord Jesus rose from the dead, 3 days after he was crucified. It brings out a sense of reflection to us, as to what do we mean by Easter, what we expect out of Easter. After that video presentation, the crowd was being fed with the trailer for the Easter play, “The Coffee House”. It was a nicely done trailer, and portrays the life of 3 individuals, each with a story to tell. After the trailer, on came the first scene.

Read about the play here -> “The Coffee House”. Throughout the play, there were live band accompanying the show, backed by lovely singers. Their voices were so sweet; I guess everyone agrees with that.

After about an hour or so, there were dances and also a short intermission by “Dr Lance” a.k.a JetSon… Wooohoo… That’s a nice one, which got every one laughing. The emcee’s (Bea and Andre) took on stage with handfuls of freebies after the performance, and guess what? During the day, a wonderful and creative idea came upon a person, and he decided to paste EE posters all over a vehicle, and who ever got the number of posters right will be given a prize on the night itself. The prize? RM 50 and a t-shirt. Yay!! So when the emcee announced the winner, she was so ecstatic and excited. Imagine yourself standing beside a poster-ed car and counting the posters on it. Yea, that’s the spirit if you want to win yea J Many more T-shirts and BBQ tickets were being given away, with questions asked such as “What’s the theme for Easter Event?” There was a small girl, who ran up the stage upon hearing the question “Where is the BBQ held?” , and her cute answer was “The Coffee House”. She was so adorable, and cute: P After some words of thanks and also collecting the feedback forms, the night event is over.

“Great job well done!” , “Keep it up!” , “You look stunning!” … these were just some of the comments I heard from the people as they walked out of the hall, shaking hands with the ushers as well as to the performers and crews. Everything went on real well and smooth. The hall was packed upon reaching 9 o clock, and everyone were satisfied with the outcome, given that there was a shift in the academic year, and also the timing of the event, but still, God is faithful, and He’s Jehovah Jireh, our provider in times of need. From the sound crews to the camera crew; the lighting crew to the back stage crew, from the Usherers to the performers; the technical crew to the security team to the refreshments and sales team, everybody put in effort to make this a success, and surely, we’ve imparted the message of Easter to those who came and witness the night, and may the message of Easter continues to be in everyone’s heart, that it is not the bunny, nor the eggs, not is it to party, but ultimately, it is the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, and He rose victorious on the 3rd day. This is the true meaning of Easter.

A big word of congratulations to the EE organizing team, especially the event directors, Chee Kah and Audrey, for putting in late nights into planning and making sure that everything run smooth and well; To the various department leaders, for leading the smaller divisions in planning and also making sure there’s synergy between departments. To the many volunteers who have signed up to help, you people are indeed a blessing and make a difference; To the performers, band members, singers, you did your very best, and I am sure many lives were touched by what you have presented. To the usherers, security, sales team, you are the forefronts of the event, being the first to great and wish people, being the first impression, being the promoter to sell t-shirts and tickets, being the one who supplied refreshments, being the team who look after our belongings when we were too busy, thank you; To the various technical crew, from sound to lights to camera to computer, you provide the atmosphere for the event, and you sure did a great job. Kudos. To everybody who helped out directly and indirectly, your contributions will not go unnoticed.

EE was great, but the God who made this possible is greater!!! All glory to Him above…
